3 Important Habits for Changing Seasons

As we’re getting ready to head into the winter, the leaves are falling, it’s getting a bit darker out, and maybe you’re eager to enter the holiday season. Do you embrace this change? Or does it always come as a bit of a jolt to your system? Either way, you should always take care to approach the changing seasons with care. Here are a handful of ways you can prioritize your wellbeing by simply adopting a few easy habits.

1. journal it out

Life moves very quickly, and when life gets busy it’s easy to let habits like journaling fall to the side. You know I think journaling is important all year round, but it is particularly important as the seasons change. Using the change of season is a good way to check in with yourself. How did you feel in this past season? What were some of the challenges you were faced with? How did you overcome them? How did you celebrate overcoming them? Who was really showing up for you? Who have you not given the attention they deserve this past season? How will you commit to a good season ahead?

2. tidy it up

Listen, if spring cleaning was the only cleaning we did, our homes would be a mess at least 10 months out of the year. Heading into winter, cleaning is just as important. I could even argue that it’s even more important, because we are heading into a season where we are spending more of our precious time inside. So shouldn’t our spaces be clean, organized, and cozy? Cleaning can be overwhelming so here are some tips: when you’re trying to put away an item and realize it doesn’t have a home, put it in a pile. After you’re done cleaning, go through that pile and find or create places for everything there or realize that it simply does not belong in your home.

3. break it down

I know it seems like the seasons can either speed on by or seem endless when you look back on them. If you’ve ever looked back on the past few months and felt disappointed in not accomplishing everything you wanted to… you’re not alone. But make sure you’re taking stock of what it is you really do want to accomplish. If the reason you’re not accomplishing something is because it’s not in alignment with where you are right now or where you want to be, then it’s time to let go of it. If the reason you’re not accomplishing something is because of lack of time management or fear of failure, break down your goals into smaller pieces. Take a big goal you wanted to accomplish this past season and break it down into a handful of smaller goals. Then make it your mission to accomplish that first smaller goal in the next season. You don’t have to do everything all at once. Baby steps.
